Privacy Policy
Effective October 28, 2026. Riffalong is made by Meline LLC ("we", "us").
This policy describes how we collect, use and share information in connection with the Riffalong apps, websites and services (the "Services"). By using the Services, you agree to this policy.
Information you give us
We collect information you provide, for example:
- Account details, such as your email address and the sign-in codes we send to it.
- Profile and preference details, such as the instruments you play and how you play them.
- Content you add or create, such as songs, recordings, tabs, links, sync points, sections, notes and practice progress.
- Details of services you connect, such as music servers or music services, including addresses and sign-in details.
- Messages, feedback and survey answers you send us.
Information collected automatically
When you use the Services, we and our service providers collect information such as:
- How you use the Services, for example the features you use, the songs and tabs you work with, practice activity, searches, and offers shown or accepted.
- Device, app and network details, for example device model, operating system, app version, language, region, identifiers, IP address, crash reports and performance data.
- Information derived from your content, for example which instruments a recording contains, its length, and how loud each part is.
Your music library and listening
If you allow Riffalong to access your media library or a music service, we may collect information about the music in it and how you listen, for example songs, artists, albums, identifiers, play counts, ratings, and when songs were added or played. We use it to provide and improve the Services, including recommendations for you and other people.
Microphone and audio
Features such as the tuner and practice tools may use the microphone and the audio you add. Audio may be processed on your device or by us or our service providers to provide those features.
Purchases
Purchases in the app are processed by the app store you buy from, and we don't receive your full payment details. We receive information about your purchases and subscriptions, such as what you bought, its status, and identifiers that link it to your use of the Services.
Information from others
We may receive information about you from app stores, connected services, service providers and other sources, and combine it with the information described above.
How we use information
We use information to provide, maintain, personalize and improve the Services; to develop new features; to recommend songs, tabs, recordings and other content; to run tests and research; to communicate with you, including about updates, offers and your account; to provide support; to measure and promote the Services; to keep the Services secure and prevent misuse; to comply with law; and for any other purpose we describe when we collect it or with your consent.
Shared catalogue and contributions
Riffalong learns from the people who use it. Information about how songs are set up and played, such as which recordings and tabs people choose, the pages tabs come from, and what instruments songs contain, may be combined with other people's and used to recommend content to everyone. Aggregated or de-identified information that doesn't identify you may be used and shared for any purpose.
How we share information
We may share information:
- With service providers that work on our behalf, such as hosting, storage, analytics, crash reporting, email, payments and customer support.
- With services you connect or ask us to reach, such as music servers, music services, tab sites and video sites. Their own terms and policies apply.
- With other users, in aggregated form or as part of features you use, such as recommendations based on what others have chosen.
- With our affiliates, and with a buyer or successor in a merger, acquisition, financing, sale of assets or similar transaction.
- When we believe it's required by law or legal process, or needed to protect the rights, property or safety of us, our users or others.
- With your consent or at your direction.
Third-party services
The Services link to and work with services we don't control, such as tab sites, video sites, music services and app stores. When you use them, they may collect information about you under their own policies, and we aren't responsible for their practices.
Storage and retention
Some information is stored on your device or in your own cloud account, and some is stored by us and our service providers. We keep information for as long as we consider it reasonably necessary for the purposes in this policy, unless the law requires otherwise. Information may be processed and stored in the United States and other countries whose laws may differ from where you live.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can't guarantee the security of any information.
Your choices
You can turn off access to your microphone, media library and other device features in your device's settings, and disconnect services in the app. You can delete your account in the app, which removes your account and the information associated with it from our active systems; copies may remain for a limited time in backups or where we're required or permitted to keep them. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in them. Depending on where you live, you may have other rights over your information; to make a request, contact us below. We may need to verify your identity before acting on it.
Children
The Services aren't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes
We may change this policy at any time. The new version takes effect when it's posted here, and your continued use of the Services means you accept it.
